April 15th is the deadline for applications to become a volunteer at the European Universities Games. The European Universities Games in Lodz, which will be held from 17th to 30th July, will be supported by a group of over 1,000 volunteers.
The deadline for international applicants was 31 March, while applications from Poland can still be sent in until midnight on 15 April.
The list of volunteers already includes 1190 people from 84 countries. Among them there are people who have already taken part in similar events organised by EUSA.
The volunteer programme at this year’s European Universities Games has been actively promoted by the Academic Sports Association for several months.
– We have been at 15 events so far, including the Final of the First Year Student Games, the Polish Academic Championships and regional competitions, where we encouraged participants to get involved in the organisation of EUG 2022. We plan to take part in around 20 more events, during which volunteers will be able to get a first-hand look at how work is carried out in the various departments at competitions, says Marianna Pikul, EUG 2022 volunteer coordinator.
People as young as 16 years old could apply to help at the event. Volunteers will be involved in such areas as: looking after teams, operating sports facilities, accommodation and catering, accreditations, decoration ceremonies, media, marketing, IT support or transport. A list of individual departments with their characteristics is available HERE.
– Volunteering at the European Universities Games in Lodz is a fantastic opportunity to gain experience in the organisation of the largest sports event in Europe, a chance to experience an extraordinary holiday adventure and make new friends, as well as improve your skills such as teamwork and communication in foreign languages, says Marianna Pikul.
– Each volunteer will receive a starter package, will be provided with free food and for those from outside Lodz, accommodation will also be provided. Those who pass the recruitment process will take part in a free training programme – she adds.
After the recruitment process closes on 15 April, the next stage of recruitment will take place. It will consist of interviews with candidates for volunteers and then they will undergo online training. On-site training and seminars are planned for July.
The European Universities Games (EUG) is the largest multi-sport academic celebration in Europe. For a fortnight of competition (17-30 July 2022), around six thousand athletes from over forty countries will compete in twenty disciplines. It is the flagship event of EUSA (European University Sport Association), taking place every 2 years in different European cities.
