Two teams of 5 players meet in a match. The task of each team is to score as many points as possible by placing the ball in the basket. A match consists of four 10-minute quarters. Only the hands are used during the game, and the ball can be passed, batted, thrown, rolled and batted.
In basketball, you can score 1, 2 or 3 points, depending on the situation and place of the throw. In case of a free throw, 1 point can be scored. When the thrower is between the basket and the three-point field goal line, the thrower scores 2 points for the successful shot. When the thrower is behind the three-point line, the shooter will score 3 points for his team.
Basketball, in its form most similar to modern ones, was most likely born in the United States. At the end of the 19th century, Protestant pastor James Naismith developed a new team game that was based on minimal physical contact and intense eye-hand coordination. Initially, the ball was thrown into wicker baskets that were hung on the balconies of the gymnasium.
In 1904 basketball was presented at the Olympic Games.
In 1932, FIBA is founded – the International Basketball Federation, which to this day oversees international basketball meetings. Since 1936, basketball is an Olympic sport.
In 1949, the NBA is founded – the American basketball association, which was created from the merger of two basketball leagues. To this day, the NBA is the best basketball league in the world, the games of which are watched all over the world.

Marcin Gortat – he spent 13 seasons in the NBA. NBA runner-up from Orlando Magic (2009).
Mieczysław Łopatka – vice-champion of Europe (1963), four-time participant of the Olympic Games (1960, 1964, 1968, 1972), two-time Polish champion (1965, 1970).
Edward Jurkiewicz – five-time Polish champion (1969, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1978), three-time participant in the European Championships (1969, 1971, 1975)
