Delegates from the European University Sports Association EUSA, which in 2018 gave the green light to organize European Universities Games 2022 in Lodz, came to our city. Representatives of EUSA checked the condition of chosen sports venues. They also gave a hearing to the report from the Organizing Committee about the preparation for the EUG 2022.

Everything must be organised strictly according to EUSA regulations: the courts surface, the number of spectators in the tribunes, even the quality of sand for the beach volleyball. The delegation from EUSA during the three-day visit had inspected a dozen venues belonging to the city, universities and the AZS (Polish Academic Sports Association).

– The main beneficiary of EUG 2022 will be the city of Lodz and the Lodz University of Technology – argued Besim Aliti, one of the EUSA delegates – The event has a positive impact on tourist traffic since over 5,000 people will come to Lodz. This is a great opportunity for the local economy.

Next year during the EUG 2022 competitions will be held in several most popular disciplines at 20 sports venues in Lodz. The program includes, inter alia, volleyball, basketball, football, table tennis. There are also para-sports in the schedule: table tennis and swimming. Martial arts are also included. Students – athletes from all over Europe will compete in karate, judo and kickboxing on the mats and rings. The organizers will provide conditions for competition and having a good time for over 5,000 participants, heads of missions and delegates. – This is the largest academic sports event in Poland that has ever taken place – said Vice-Rector for Students Affairs at the Lodz University of Technology, Mr Witold Pawlowski – The fact that it will be held in Lodz and will promote the city and its academic community, as well as the Lodz University of Technology, is a huge added value. Next year’s European Universities Games, which will be the largest celebration of student sport on the Old Continent, are also a promotion for the city and the Lodz University of Technology – the main organizers of the EUG Lodz 2022. Lodz is one of the largest academic centres in the country. EUG 2022 will be an opportunity to show it in Europe as a place for young people to study, develop their skills and passions. For the Lodz University of Technology, it is an opportunity to present as a place where science has been successfully combined with sport for years.

The city of Lodz, in turn, wants to present itself during the EUG 2022 as a developing city with prospects for the future. – The Town Hall of Lodz city has believed in the strength of the Lodz University of Technology from the very beginning – says Joanna Skrzydlewska, Deputy Mayor of Lodz – I would like to thank the representatives of EUSA for their visit to Lodz. We have been waiting for you for some time.
I hope to get information about Lodz preparations for the organization of next year’s games soon.
The EUG in Lodz will last from 17th to 30th July 2022. During 2 weeks students from at least 40 European countries will compete for medals. The first European Universities Games were held in 2012 in Cordoba, Spain. Lodz, on the other hand, will host the 6th edition of the EUG. It will be the largest academic sport event organized in Poland since the 2001 Winter Universiade in Zakopane.
