The next European Universities Games under the EUSA banner will be held in July next year in Lodz. The coordinator of the Polish games, Tatsiana Andrushka, spoke about the preparations and the main objectives of the EUG Lodz 2022 during the EUSA General Assembly in Budapest.
We are ready to receive about 5000 student-athletes and 800 volunteers. We will start recruiting volunteers already on 15 October and registering athletes on 1 December – said Tatsiana Andrushka, coordinator of EUG Lodz 2022 during the presentation.
Lodz is one of the largest academic centres in the country. More than 65 thousand students study here every year. Situated in the very heart of Poland, the city is friendly and attractive for tourists – assured Tatsiana Andrushka, Coordinator of EUG Lodz 2022.
It is not a coincidence that Lodz University of Technology has been chosen as the host of EUG Lodz 2022. The university is a perfect example that science and sport can be combined. TUL students and graduates are European and world champions in various disciplines. Among them, there is Kajetan Duszyński, gold medallist of the Tokyo Olympic Games in the 4×400 meter mixed relay, Dorota Banaszczyk, the first Polish woman with a world title in Olympic karate, or Adam Kszczot, the world and European champion in the 800-meter run. All three of them are Ambassadors of EUG Lodz 2022 – emphasized Tatsiana Andrushka.
The EUG 2022 Coordinator also spoke about AZS – University Sports Association, the largest academic sports organisation in Poland, whose athletes brought home 14 medals from the last Olympic Games. AZS together with Lodz University of Technology and the city of Lodz is involved in the preparation of EUG Lodz 2022.
At the EUSA General Assembly in the capital of Hungary, the delegates elected a new Executive Committee that will lead the organization for the next 4 years. Adam Roczek has been elected president of EUSA for another term. The session in Budapest took place on September 10-11.The EUSA-FISU Strategic Dialogue, as well as the preceding EUSA General Assembly were organised by the European University Sports Association (EUSA), hosted by the Hungarian University Sports Federation (MEFS) in cooperation with the University of Physical Education (TF), and supported also by the International University Sports Federation (FISU).
