Rules

Swimming competitions are usually held in 50-meter long swimming pools. The Olympic swimming pool, where the most important international competitions are played, measures 50 x 25 meters, and its depth is at least 2 meters. The water temperature during the competition should be between 25 and 28 degrees Celsius.

In sports swimming there are four swimming styles – butterfly, backstroke, classic and free.

History

Man used the ability to swim in antiquity. The first official swimming competition was organized in Japan in the 1st century BC. The oldest swimming club in the world is Upsala Simsallskap in Sweden, founded in 1796. Swimming has been an Olympic sport since the first Summer Olympics held in Athens in 1896. Until 1908, swimmers used the open waters.

Rafał Szukła – Olympic vice-champion from Barcelona (1992) and world champion in 100 m butterfly (1994), two-time European champion (1989, 1993)

Otylia Jędrzejczak – two-time world champion (2003, 2005), five-time European champion (2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2006) and three-time Olympic medallist (gold and two silver medals in 2004)

Paweł Korzeniowski – world champion (2005), three times European champion (2006, 2008, 2010)
